Michael Crites Arrested for Forcible Sodomy on 10-year-old

A 26-year-old Springfield man accused of sexually assaulting a boy near a Jordan Creek swimming spot appeared in court today, waiving his right to a probable cause hearing.

Michael W. Crites is charged with kidnapping, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy.

Prosecutors say he snatched a 10-year-old boy from a swimming hole near the intersection of Meadowmere and Hillcrest streets on July 15, then took him into the woods and sodomized him.

Crites allegedly told the boy not to scream or it would “be worse,” according to a probable cause statement filed with the charges.

The boy ran home and told his mother of the assault.

In an interview with police, Crites allegedly said he’d been walking in the woods with the boy,

“Crites was unsure how (the boy) ended up on the ground, but stated he sat next to (the child) and touched (the boy’s) anus with his hand,” the probable cause statement said. “Crites realized what he was doing, got up, and ran away.”

Crites is scheduled to be arraigned in Greene County Circuit Court on Aug. 28. He’s being held in the Greene County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

Monroe Donald Macrae Arrested for Sexual Assault, Rape

What police called a “major” child sex assault was under investigation after Multnomah County Sheriff Bob Skipper found a little girl sitting alone in the parking lot as he left work Tuesday.

“I knew something was wrong so I started asking questions and she didn’t have answers for them,” said Sheriff Skipper.

Skipper said the child was suffering from something more than being lost or abandoned.

Portland Police took over the investigation after Multnomah county Sheriff Bob Skipper found a child alone in the lot on NE 122nd and Glisan.

Child Abuse Team detectives say Monroe Donald Macrae, 29, was arrested on rape, sodomy and sex abuse charges. Investigators say the little girl has been removed from a horrible situation.

"There isn't a police officer in this area that wouldn't have walked out and wondered what's going on here and I think it's just part of being a police officer," said Skipper. "You get used to paying attention to things around you and it didn't look right.”

Sheriff Skipper worked as a child abuse detective for many years prior to becoming sheriff.

Anthony Jiron Charged with Sexual Abuse on 7-year-old

An attorney for Anthony Gene Jiron said Wednesday in 5th District Court that his client is ready to proceed to a trial by jury on charges he sexually abused a child in his care.

Jiron entered not guilty pleas to three charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, sodomy on a child and rape of a child on Sept. 16, 2008, and is scheduled for a five-day trial beginning July 27.

Jiron's attorney, Douglas Terry, told Judge James Shumate the case could be given priority for trial but that there is a possibility of negotiating a settlement with the prosecution before the trial date.

Washington County Attorney Brian Filter confirmed that Terry had mentioned the possibility of a resolution but said the case remains on the trial calendar for now.

Shumate gave attorneys until Wednesday to decide if they will be able to resolve the case without a trial.

Jiron is accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl in his care during a week in July 2008.

According to the arrest narrative filed by St. George Police Detective Chris Trani, police were called following an argument between Jiron and another adult about the alleged abuse.

According to the state-ment, Jiron threatened to harm himself with a knife and initially refused police summons to exit the building until he had finished drinking a beer, at which point he allowed himself to be taken into custody.

During an interview with Trani, Jiron admitted sexual behavior with the partially clothed child, the statement said.

However, in an October 2008 letter to the judge, Jiron declared his innocence and said he was intoxicated at the time of his arrest and should not have been questioned in that state and that the alleged victim was already in therapy for sexual abuse at the time of his arrest and that her motives were suspect.

William Dongwoo Suh Arrested for Sexually Assaulting 13-year-old on MySpace

A man arrested last week for investigation of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he met on MySpace also threatened to harm the girl and kill her friends, according to court documents.

New details about the case came out Thursday when William Dongwoo Suh, 25, was charged in 3rd District Court with four counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, one count of sodomy on a child and two counts of making terrorist threats.

Suh, who was previously convicted in California for having sex with a minor, met the Utah girl through MySpace. He traveled to Utah in June with the intent of having sex with the girl, according to police.

When Suh arrived, the girl told him she was just 13, according to court documents. Over the next few weeks, the two engaged in various sexual acts, according to police and court documents.

But when the girl tried to back off from the relationship, Suh sent her text messages threatening to find her friends and "slit their throats," and later sent her a text ordering her to perform a sex act "if you want your dad out of jail," and also texting, "… or I'll hurt you," according to court documents.

While being interviewed by police, Suh told investigators that he had looked up the law on the age of consent in Las Vegas and believed the juvenile could consent to sexual activity, court documents stated.

About five years ago, Suh was convicted in California on a similar offense and spent six months in jail, Cottonwood Heights police detective Beau Babka said. In that case, Suh had also threatened a family member of the victim and had a shotgun. He was waiting for that person when police arrived first and arrested him, he said.

When Suh arrived in Utah he had his laptop computer with him. Babka said investigators were going through the computer to see if Suh had chatted with any other young girls and if there were any other potential victims.

Ashley Paul Norris Arrested for Rape & Sodomy of 3-year-old

A Daleville man who was out of jail on bond for first-degree rape and sodomy was charged Thursday with the sodomy and sexual abuse of a three-year-old girl, according to authorities.

A press release from the Dale County Sheriff’s Office said Ashley Paul Norris, 30, of Daleville, was re-arrested Thursday and placed in the Dale County Jail under no bond.

Dale County Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Harvey Mathis said Norris was arrested by the Daleville Police Department on April 23 for rape and sodomy.

An investigation that surfaced after the girl reported abuse to another adult led to Norris’ second arrest, Mathis said.

“Once the new allegations surfaced, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office made this case a priority,” Mathis said. “Any case involving a child is a priority.“

Norris is expected to appear before a judge soon.

Jimmie Joe Olson Arrested for Sexual Abuse of two 7-year-old Girls

A West Valley man faces four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child after prosecutors say he abused two 7-year-old girls.

Jimmie Joe Olson, 20, was charged in 3rd District Court Thursday with the four counts, all first-degree felonies, as well as one count of sodomy upon a child and one count of rape of a child, which are both first-degree felonies as well.

Teacher John Gisler Charged with Sex Crimes to Minor

A Tulsa middle school teacher and former volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters has been charged with sex crimes involving a minor.

Forty-one-year-old John Charles Gisler was charged Monday in Tulsa County District Court with one count each of lewd molestation, forcible sodomy and second-degree rape. The arrest report indicates he was taken into custody near 27th and South Harvard on Tuesday.

The victim was 14 years of age at the time the alleged crimes began.

"The allegation is that the suspect began molesting a child at the age of 14," says Tulsa Police Spokesperson Jason Willingham. "He was actually a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and during one of the mentorship programs he became acquainted with this young man and began molesting him and continued those crimes for three years."

Big Brothers Big Sisters released the following statement Wednesday afternoon:

"Big Brothers Big Sisters is aware of the investigation and arrest involving a former volunteer with our organization. We are alarmed and deeply saddened by reports of any child being harmed. Because there is an ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate and irresponsible for us to discuss or speculate about any specifics.

However, please know that we make child safety our priority. We have zero tolerance for abuse. Our volunteers and staff undergo thorough screening and background checks and we provide ongoing professional support for our children and families."

Big Brothers Big Sisters says it has no knowledge that Gisler had any contact with any of the organization's children since his relationship with them ended. They say they will work with police to inform any parents whose children may have been in contact with Gisler and they're making professional support available to any concerned families, mentors staff or others with BBBS.

Tulsa Public Schools officials say the victim was not one of Gisler's students, but they say they are conducting an internal investigation at this time.

"Even though we've been assured the allegations do not involve Whitney students, we are conducting our own investigation to ensure the safety and security of our students," says Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard. "We appreciate the Tulsa Police Department's diligence in protecting the children of Tulsa."

The district's human resources compliance office is investigating to determine if anything may have happened on school property or with Tulsa students.

Gisler has been employed at at Whitney Middle School since August 2005 and was in the school's Science department.

Court records show Gisler is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for arraignment.

Keven Grisham Sentenced to 229 Years for Sexual Assault

A man convicted of sexually assaulting three Porterville-area girls, one of him his stepdaughter, faces a prison term of up to 229 years when sentenced next month, the Tulare County District Attorney's office announced Friday.

Keven Grisham, 52, of Santa Maria was convicted June 18 by a Tulare County Superior Court jury. He was found guilty on 21 counts of sexual assault, including child molestation, forcible rape and sodomy, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, according to the press release.

Prosecutors said the offenses occurred between 1996 and 2003, when Grisham was living in the Porterville area and when the three victims, now in their early- to mid-20s, were minors.

Grisham's arrest, in Santa Maria in October last year, followed a monthlong investigation that began after a then-23 year-old woman told Tulare County sheriff's deputies that Grisham, her stepfather, had sexually assaulted her between the ages of 11 and 18, according to a sheriff's report.

During the investigation, two other victims approached the sheriff's department and told deputies they had been sexually assaulted by Grisham when they were minors, said Deputy District Attorney Mikki Verissimo, who prosecuted the case.

The assaults occurred in the Porterville area, Verissimo said.

"I'm very happy with the verdict and I'm happy that we got justice for the three victims," she said.

Grisham will be sentenced July 22 in Tulare County Superior Court.

Officer Mark Benton Arrested on Sexual Abuse Charges

Oregon State Police arrested an Athena police officer Monday on charges of sex crimes.

Athena Police Officer Mark Benton Ashcraft is in the Umatilla County Jail on charges of third-degree sodomy, second-degree sexual abuse and first-degree online sexual corruption of a child. The first two charges are Class C felonies in Oregon and the last is a Class B felony. Ashcraft has jail bonds totalling $22,500.

According to the Oregon Revised Statute, the charge of first-degree online sexual corruption means a defendant reasonably believes the victim to be under 16 years of age and "intentionally takes a substantial step toward physically meeting with or encountering the child. That step includes arranging a place and time to meet. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Dyann Swanson, Athena city recorder, said city officials are concerned about the matter, but it's also important to keep in mind Ashcraft is only a suspect at this time.

Ashcraft was a police officer in Pilot Rock for nine years before the smaller city of Athena hired him in December 2007. Swanson said while he was with Athena he had been a good employee.

"He came with a really great record," Swanson said.

Pilot Rock Mayor Virginia Carnes declined to comment on the case.

Lt. Greg Sherman with the Oregon State Police in Pendleton said Umatilla County District Attorney Dean Gushwa was handling all inquiries about the arrest.

Jason Johnson Pleads Guilty to Statutory Sodomy

A Jefferson City man, already serving federal prison time for pleading guilty to possession of child pornography, pleaded guilty Thursday to a first-degree statutory sodomy charge he was facing in Cole County Court.

Under a deal struck with the prosecutor's office, Jason Johnson, 24, will have his seven-year sentence run concurrent with the federal eight-year prison term he is currently serving. He has been in federal prison since last November.

Judge Jon Beetem accepted his plea and told Johnson once he is released from prison, he would need to register as a sex offender.

The charge is from January 2007. The crime took place with a child who was under the age of 14 at the time.

In the courtroom, Beetem asked the mother of the victim if she agreed with the deal and she did. She added that the victim has been in and out of hospitals seven times dealing with suicidal tendencies since the incident and currently is living at Boys and Girls Town.
