Former Officer Ken Fox Wanted for Child Porn

The wife of a former Oakland CHP officer was arrested by the FBI on a warrant today charging her with molesting two of her husband's young children last year and having thousands of images of child pornography on a home computer, authorities said.

Her husband, Ken Fox, 35, is still at large and being sought on the same charges by authorities who said he may have tried to fake his own death in Mexico recently.

Arrested today in San Diego was Brandie Fox, also known as Brandie Gerth, 26, the children's stepmother. Authorities said she recently split from her husband and was arrested soon after crossing the border into the United States from Mexico.

Oakland police said the California Highway Patrol told them Ken Fox had been fired. CHP officials did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Brandie Fox was arrested on an Oakland police warrant charging her with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and possession of child pornography.

Oakland police received an anonymous tip in March 2008 from someone who believed the children were being molested during visits to the couple's Oakland home on 36th Street, not far from CHP headquarters. The children live with their biological mother but visit Fox and his wife, police said.

Authorities said Ken Fox's four children range in age from 1 to 8. Authorities said their investigation revealed that the two oldest children, 5 and 8 at the time, were encouraged to fondle their stepmother's breasts and encouraged to talk about bondage. Police said the 5-year-old girl had a leather spiked collar placed around her neck and was walked around the couple's apartment on a leash.

Police said Brandie Fox was studying for her teaching credential at the time of the molestations and wanted to be a kindergarten teacher.

In March 2008, police served a search warrant at the 36th Street apartment and seized computers that turned out to contain more than 3,000 images of child pornography, including some pictures of infants. None of those images were of Ken Fox's own children, police said.

Police said the couple were interviewed in March 2008 but denied any wrongdoing. The couple were not arrested at the time and fled the area before investigators could confirm what happened to the children and get into the computers.

Anyone with information about the case may call the Oakland police at 510-238-3641.

Man Wanted for Sexually Assaulting 13-year-old

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department Child Abuse Bureau detectives have recovered surveillance video of the suspect in the July 27 sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl at Antelope Crossing Middle School.

According to sheriff's officials, the video was captured by the school's video surveillance cameras and shows the suspect running from the scene after the attack. Detectives are releasing the video and asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect responsible for the attack.

On Friday, sheriff's detectives released a sketch of a suspect (top left).

He is described as a "very tan" white man in his mid-40s, 5-feet-6 to 6-feet tall, with a medium build, short gray hair and a noticeable belly. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with red trim, blue jeans and black shoes.

Sheriff officials said the attack happened shortly after 5 p.m. at the middle school. The victim had gone to the school, which was not in session, with two friends, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy.

They separated briefly. The victim was on the west side of the campus when the attacker appeared behind a classroom, grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her.

The suspected fled on foot toward Palmerson Drive after the victim struggled and yelled for help. The 14-year-old girl saw the attack from a short distance away, authorities said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Child Abuse Bureau detectives at (916) 874-5194 or (916) 874-5191, or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Salvador Desiderio-Zapote Wanted for Sexually Assaulting 10-year-old

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl, but he is believed to have made a run for the border.

Salvador Desiderio-Zapote, 29, is charged with two counts of child sexual abuse. Durant Police Detective Shane Harkey began investigating in May after receiving a report that the suspect touched a girl’s private parts.

An affidavit states that a girl told a Department of Human Services worker that Desiderio-Zapote had fondled her numerous times.

Harkey talked to Desiderio-Zapote and told him he was required to keep police informed of his address until the investigation was finished. According the affidavit, Desiderio-Zapote agreed and said he would not leave town until the investigation was completed.

After the victim was interviewed, Harkey determined that he had probable cause to make a warrantless arrest, and when he went to the suspect’s home, the occupant said that Desiderio-Zapote fled to Hidalgo, Mexico, to avoid prosecution, the affidavit states.

Harkey visited Desiderio-Zapote’s employer and was told that he had not reported to work since May 10 and told employees he was going back to Mexico before police put him in jail.

In other court cases, Bobby Ramos Madrid, 32, Durant, was charged Monday with two felony counts of injury to a minor child, plus a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.

Madrid is accused of throwing a 4-year-old child across the room and hitting a 10-year-old child on the back with a key. He also is charged with hitting his girlfriend and slamming her to the ground.

Durant Police Patrolman Shane Walker began investigating Thursday after he was dispatched to a convenience store on East Highway 70 to take an assault report.

A woman told Harkey she was at Madrid’s residence with her children in the 1200 block of East Cedar Street. She told Harkey that she got into an argument with Madrid and that he then picked up her 4-year-old child and threw him across the room, the report stated.

She said she attempted to leave in her vehicle and Madrid would not let her, so she began walking north on South McLean Road.

According to the report, she said Madrid drove up and tried to get her to get inside his vehicle. When she would not, he slammed her to the ground. The woman’s 10-year-old daughter tried to help her mother, according to police, and he hit her on the back with a key.

Madrid left, according to police, and Harkey found him later that day at a residence in the 200 block of Southeast Fifth Avenue. He was arrested and his bond was set at $32,500.

According to court records, Madrid has prior convictions for assault and battery with a deadly weapon, grand larceny, knowingly concealing stolen property and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Eduardo Torres-Franco Wanted for Molesting 3-year-old

Eduardo Torres-Franco faced six to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this month to molesting a 3-year-old girl.

But instead of appearing in a Rolling Meadows courtroom for sentencing Tuesday, the 39-year-old Palatine man skipped the hearing and likely the country.

"I can only assume he's in Mexico," Torres-Franco's private attorney, Steven Goldman, said afterward.

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Fecarotta issued a no-bail warrant for Torres-Franco's arrest and set a judgment date for Sept. 1, at which time bond he could be indicted on a bail jumping charge. Torres-Franco, of the 1700 block of Rose Street in Palatine, wasn't in custody because he previously posted 10 percent of his $100,000 bond.

On July 14, Torres-Franco pleaded guilty of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse for crimes that took place between 1999 and 2001. Prospect Heights police said he admitted to molesting the 3-year-old daughter of a woman he dated at the time. The abuse occurred when Torres-Franco baby-sat the child, prosecutors said.

The victim came forward in February with claims of the abuse.

Goldman said he last spoke with Torres-Franco, who he said was in the U.S. illegally, during the guilty plea. He said he wasn't surprised his client fled.

"I didn't expect him here," Goldman said.
