Carlos Rivera Arrested for Sex Crimes

A man accused of being a sexual predator by Pennsylvania authorities was arrested in Jersey City last week in a joint operation between several law enforcement agencies, the Hudson County's Sheriff's Office said.

Carlos Taino Rivera, 29, Hummelstown, Pa., was wanted in Duaphin County in Pennsylvania on charges of statutory sexual contact, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and unlawful contact with a minor, said Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez.

Hudson County Sheriff's Office detectives Oliver King and Javier Martinez and members of the U.S. Marshal's New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Rivera early Tuesday morning at the Lincoln Street home of a woman he was visiting, officials said.

Other agencies involved with the arrest were the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey State Police and Bergen County Sheriff's Office.

Perez commended the teamwork between the agencies, saying that in bringing fugitives to justice they were "protecting the people of Hudson County."

Viktor Zhadanov Arrested for Sexual Assault on 13-year-old

A Belleville man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting in the Frelinghuysen Middle School parking lot a 13-year-old Morris Township girl he met online, according to an affidavit filed in Morristown today.

Viktor Zhadanov, 26, faces two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to the affidavit.

Morris Township Police Detective David Crowley, in the affidavit, said Patrolman Bruce Starnes spotted a blue 2001 Ford Explorer in the school’s parking lot on Jane Way and went to investigate.

Starnes found a 13-year-old girl in a passenger’s seat and saw the driver, Zhadanov, adjusting his sweat pants, according to the affidavit.

The officer contacted the girl’s mother, and the girl later told police “this was not the first time she met with Viktor Zhadanov," and that she performed a sex act on him on a previous occasion, according to the affidavit.

She told investigators she met him in an online char room named “Kids Chat,” according to the affidavit. She spoke with a man who went by the username “Slave” who purported to be a 15-year-old boy from Newark. She told him she was 13.

The girl first met Zhadanov after midnight on July 6 at a field near her home. Zhadanov allegedly said he “was horny” and exposed himself, according to the affidavit.

She performed a sex act on him and then she returned home while he left the area, the affidavit read.

They again met early July 7 into the early morning hours of July 8 when he picked her up, drove her to a parking lot in Morris Township, pulled down her pants and performed a sex act on her.

The girl said the two communicated both online and through cell phone instant messages, the affidavit read.

A sexual assault nurse’s examination was performed on the girl, and police obtained a warrant to search Zhadanov’s car and found condoms and a cell phone.

Zhadanov admitted to driving from his home to meet the girl, according to the affidavit.

“However, he denied knowing her age or that he engaged in any sexual activity with her,” the affidavit read.

Zhadanov was lodged in the Morris County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Grandmother Linda Davis Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of 4-year-old Granddaughter

Bond has been cut from $1 million to $100,000 for an Albuquerque grandmother accused of using her granddaughter to create child pornography.

Authorities charged 51-year-old Linda Davis with several felonies, including criminal sexual exploitation of a minor for allegedly making pornographic pictures of her 4-year-old granddaughter with her boyfriend, Christopher Gurule.

According to KOB-TV, state District Judge Charles Brown stipulated that if Davis is able to post bond, she will be released to her mother in Tijeras and that she will not have contact with the granddaughter.

Davis was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lieu of the $1 million bond since her arrest last October.

Gurule also has been charged in the case and faces charges of rape and child pornography.

Choir Teacher Ramiro Lozano Arrested for Sexual Exploitation

A 46-year-old former middle school choir teacher has been indicted on three counts of sexual exploitation of children and two counts of possession of child pornography, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Ramiro C. Lozano was expected to surrender to authorities on Tuesday for an initial court appearance.

Susan Fox, assistant superintendent for human resources at the Brownsville Independent School District, said Lozano's employment at Besteiro Middle School has been terminated since the allegations surfaced.

The indictment, returned July 7 and unsealed Thursday, alleges Lozano coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to create images. Investigators say he had pornographic images of children on his laptop and desktop computers.

If convicted, Lozano faces 15 to 30 years in prison for each sexual exploitation charge and up to 10 years in prison for each of the possession charges.

It was unclear whether Lozano had an attorney.

Roy Ressler Sentenced to 5 Years for Child Porn

A North Dakota man has been sentenced to five years in prison on a child pornography charge in a case that began when parents in Ohio reported sexually explicit text messages sent to their daughter.

The U.S. attorney's office says 39-year-old Roy Ressler of Mandan was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court. Ressler pleaded guilty in April to receiving materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

Authorities say the parents of a girl in University Heights, Ohio, reported in September 2007 that their daughter received the messages on her cell phone. Investigators set up a sting in which Ressler believed he was texting the girl and tried to persuade her to run away to Fargo to meet him.

Authorities say a search of Ressler's home and computer found sexually explicit pictures.

Victor Isreal Martinez Sentenced to 17 Years for Coercing Girl to Pose Nude

A Porterville man convicted of coercing a girl under twelve years old into posing for sexually explicit images was sentenced Monday to more than 17 years in prison.

Victor Isreal Martinez, 30, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fresno for one count of sexual exploitation of a minor through production of child pornography.

The case against Martinez resulted from an investigation by the Lindsay and Porterville police departments, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Fresno.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Fresno, Martinez admitted that on Sept. 8, 2007 in Tulare County he coerced the girl to engage in sexually explicit conduct in order to take photos of her. The images were transferred to a computer and uploaded to two Yahoo! accounts, prosecutors reported.

Martinez’s sentence was enhanced because his offense involved sexual contact with a minor and because he distributed the images, prosecutors said.

In addition to 210 months in prison, he will serve a lifetime probation in which his access to minors, computers and the Internet will be restricted, prosecutors said.

Ernest Garza Sentenced to 7 Years for Downloading Child Porn

A Robstown man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for downloading child pornography from the Internet.

Ernest Garza, 23, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Hayden Head to seven years and three months in prison to be followed by a decade of supervised release.

He also must register as a sex offender for life, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Garza pleaded guilty in April to one count of receiving child pornography.

FBI agents and Corpus Christi police obtained a search warrant in September to search Garza’s home. They seized a laptop computer that had several videos and images of child exploitation, the release said.

He was arrested in March after an investigation revealed he was downloading and offering the images for others to download. Some of the children in the images and videos had been identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Andrew Gomez Drowns 18-month-old

18-year-old Andrew Gomez has been charged with the murders of Tiffany Sykes-Cecconi and her 18-month-old daughter, Kaylani.

Police made the announcement official in a Sunday afternoon news conference, hours after firstcoastnews.com first reported Gomez had been booked on murder charges.

On Friday, an autopsy declared their deaths a drowning.

Sykes-Cecconi and her daughter died last Wednesday following an incident at a pool in The Cove just off University Boulevard. Gomez was also found at the pool naked, having ingested a large amount of pool water. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Lt. Larry Schmitt says detectives interviewed Gomez in the hospital.

Schmitt says the fact that Gomez was the only other person at the pool at the time of the deaths made him a suspect.

According to the police report, the only weapons used in the crime were Gomez's hands and feet.

Schmitt would not disclose the details of the statement Gomez gave police, but Gomez was charged immediately after he was interviewed.

Gomez, a longtime friend of Cecconi, remains in stable condition at the hospital at this time, and police say he will be taken to jail--without bond--as soon as he is released.

Gomez was a long-time friend of Cecconi. Two days ago, a friend of the man told First Coast News Gomez loved Tiffany and her baby and would have always been there for him.

Neighbors and friends of Cecconi had many questions surrounding the nature of the deaths.

Laurie Juhan is the mother of Sykes-Cecconi's best friend.

Juhan told First Coast News Tiffany's mother went to the neighborhood pool in the Cove subdivision Wednesday morning to check on her daughter and granddaughter because it started to rain.

When she got there, Juhan said Sykes-Cecconi's mother saw Gomez naked, in the pool, with his arms stretched out and in a daze. Juhan said Sykes-Cecconi's mother wondered why the man didn't help.

But neighbor Bill Reynolds did. He rushed over during the chaos.

"A lady flagged me down," said Reynolds. "I jumped out of the car. The baby was on the ground. The baby's grandmother was trying to do CPR. They shouted the daughter was still up at the pool area. I ran over. There was a young man in the pool standing with his arms outstretched, naked in the pool."

Police will not say whether Gomez was under the influence while at the pool Wednesday, nor have they released details as to why the man was naked.

First Coast News spoke with Andrew Gomez's mother Sunday afternoon, who says she is devastated and shocked by her son's arrest. She says she does not know what her son could have told police at the hospital, because she was under the impression her son was heavily sedated.

Gina Cameron, Kaylani's paternal grandmother, says her family, too, is devastated. She says her son, Kaylani's dad and Tiffany's estranged husband are mourning the deaths. Cameron says their family is praying for the family of Andrew Gomez.
