Music Teacher James Jordan Arrested for Lewd Act with Child

A music teacher in Sacramento has been arrested for allegedly abusing young children, and authorities believe there are other victims who haven't yet come forward.

James Charles Jordan, 53, was arrested on Saturday and charged with six counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 years old. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says Jordan is a music minister for a local church and gives private piano and organ lessons to children.

Because of Jordan's close contact with kids, detectives say they believe there is a "high probability" there are victims that haven't come forward yet.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Sheriff's child abuse detectives at (916) 874-8002.

Brad Rocklin Montgomery Sentenced to Life for Sexual Assault

A Fallon man accused of sexual assault and unlawful use of a minor to produce pornography and lewdness with children will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Brad Rocklin Montgomery, 54, showed little emotion on Tuesday as Judge Will Rogers imposed the sentences that will run consecutively.

Montgomery had pleaded guilty to 10 charges of lewdness with a child under the age of 14, five counts of unlawful use of a minor less than 14 years of age in producing pornography or as a subject of sex portrayal in performance and one charge of sexual assault on a child under the age of 14.

Of the 10 charges of lewdness with a child under the age of 14, Montgomery was sentenced four to 10 years in prison on six of them and life in prison with a possibility of parole after 10 years on the other four charges.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Lane Mills mentioned the different sentence ranges were the result of when the crimes were committed. The Nevada Legislature changed the sentence ranges in 1996-97 for this crime.

On the charges of producing pornography or as a subject of sex portrayal in performance, Montgomery received life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years on each count, and on the sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, he was sent to prison for life with the possibility of parole after 35 years.

Montgomery's sister, Connie Barrier said her brother came from “good stock” with high Christian principles.

She told the court Montgomery has potential and asked for leniency.

“He has never been in trouble with the law before,” she said. “He is a good person.”

Mills attacked Barrier's claim that her brother came from good stock, and he asked if she was aware Montgomery said he was molested as a child from their father.

After she said she was not aware of it, Mills asked her if she believed her brother was a “liar.” She said she did not think so.

Mills said the case arose after a child had the courage to report what allegedly had been happening to him. When Montgomery was arrested in New Mexico, Mills said he had a hard drive computer drive with “vile, reprehensible material.”

“You only have to look at this for a second,” Mills said of the material seized from the defendant.

In 1996 and 1997 Montgomery was accused of video taping children as they exited school buses. Also recovered was a photo of a simulated sexual act with a stuffed pig and videos, including one titled “Toy.”

“When you look at this, this man deserves every consecutive (life) sentence allowed by law,” Mills said. “This is a signal to send to the world at large. He was one click away from sending this material to other perverts in the world.

He also said a photo was recovered of a boy wearing a baseball uniform which was the same team Montgomery coached in the Fallon Youth Baseball league years ago.

“This is a man with absolutely no remorse and blames the child,” Mills added. “He is evil. The message is pedophiles and perverts like Montgomery cannot do this to children. Throw the book at Mr. Montgomery.”

Public Defender Chet Kafchinski said he does not know if his client ever had a chance to succeed in life.

“He's never had been given the opportunity to grow as an adult,” he said.

Montgomery said he has looked back and researched his life to determine why he had these problems and committed certain acts.

Rogers said the court finds this to be one of the most serious cases because perpetrators like Montgomery are dooming children.

“I don't believe that as a society we can look away from that,” he said. “At this juncture sir, your life or whatever is left of it, will be spent in the department of corrections. I don't care about you. I do care about the people in the community.”

Edwin Sevrence Guilty of Sexual Assault on 8-year-old

After deliberating for about four hours, a Washoe County jury, for a second time, found a Reno man guilty of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, whom he allegedly had “groomed” to be his sexual playmate.

Washoe District Judge Steven Elliott ordered Edwin Sevrence to return to court on Sept. 10 to be sentenced on the two counts: sexual assault of a child under 14, and lewdness with a child.

He could face a maximum of life in prison on the charges.

Sevrence was convicted in 2005 on the same charges, but appealed the conviction. Last year, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled Elliott should have called a mistrial after it was learned that a juror had connections to Sevrence’s parental rights case, and ordered a new trial.

His new trial started last week, and ended with closing arguments late Wednesday.

Deputy District Attorney Kelli Ann Viloria said she was thrilled.

“I’m pleased the jury came to what I believe was a proper verdict,” she said. “This was about the children -- the girl and her siblings. They deserved to be believed.”
“Hopefully now they can move ahead.”

Sevrence’s lawyer, Roger Whomes, said they respect the jury’s decision, but said he would likely appeal again.

The girl, now 14, testified that Sevrence would take her into his bed at night, and use a lubricant as he touched her inappropriately. She also said he made her fondle him once while they were in the bathroom together, and made her show her private parts to her brothers.

Whomes argued that there were inconsistencies in her statements, and told the jury that the findings of a sexual assault nurse with the Child Abuse Response & Evaluations, or CARES program were later found to be incorrect.

But the jury found in favor of the child and Viloria.

Former Chief Timothy Boyer Arrested for Sexual Abuse

In a shocking case, a former police chief is in jail after confessing to sexually abusing a child for the last eight years--since she was eight years old.

Timothy Boyer was police chief of tiny Wynona from March 17 to June 16, when he resigned. Reports say that during his short tenure, Boyer wasn't popular with the town.

As it turns out, he had a secret: eight years of sexually molesting a young girl, now 16 years old. Boyer voluntarily turned himself in to the Sand Springs police department and admitted the years of abuse. He's in the Tulsa County jail with bond set at $200,000.

He's been charged with rape by instrumentation and lewd molestation of a child under 16. Boyer reportedly told officers that he performed "everything but intercourse" in his sexual acts with the child.

Boyer previously worked in two other Oklahoma police departments, as well as working as a registered nurse.

A former Lynwood high school principal has been arrested on suspicion of molesting three students at the school and another in the Whittier area.

Jonas Silverio, 40, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon by sheriff’s detectives at LAX after flying in from the Philippines. He allegedly fled to that country in May and returned Wednesday, unaware that a warrant had been issued for his arrest.

He resigned his position at Firebaugh High in early May after sheriff detectives began investigating the molestation allegations. The incidents allegedly occurred in 2001 and 2005. In addition to being principal, Silverio was the school’s volleyball coach.

Scott said their investigation is ongoing and that detectives are checking allegations that go back as far as 1996. Detectives from the Special Victims Bureau learned of the victim in Whittier/ Santa Fe Springs area during the investigation, Scott said.

Former Officer Louis Alvie 'Buck' Morris in Court on Rape of 15-year-old

Former Stillwater Police Officer Louis Alvie "Buck" Morris, 48, who appeared in court today on charges alleging he committed five sex acts with a 15-year-old female student in May, has resigned from the department, Stillwater Police Chief Norman McNickle said.

"This case now rests in the hands of the judicial system," McNickle said.

The preliminary hearing for Morris, who has been charged with two counts of rape by instrumentation and three counts of lewd acts with a child, was scheduled during Morris's brief court appearance today for Aug. 28.

If convicted of the five-count charge, Morris could receive as much as two life without parole sentences plus 60 years in prison, court records show.

Morris was originally represented by Oklahoma City attorney Susan Ann Knight, but now is being defended by four Oklahoma City attorneys, Joe E. White Jr., Charles C. Weddle III, Marvel E. Lewis and Blake Farris, court records show.

Morris, who was an officer with the Stillwater Police Department for 17 years, had served as a School Resource Officer for six years, McNickle said.

He was suspended without pay at the time of his June 16 arrest at his Ripley residence, McNickle said.

Morris resigned from the Stillwater Police Department on June 26, McNickle said.

"As a Police Officer and a School Resource Officer, Morris was sworn to protect and serve all the citizens of Stillwater," McNickle said in a press release when Morris was arrested by officers from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Stillwater Police Department and the Payne County Sheriff's Office.

"It is apparent to me and the personnel of the Stillwater Police Department that the sacred trust in the Oath of Office was violated." McNickle said.

"Department members are deeply disappointed and disgusted in the actions of a veteran officer.

"Members of the department take their oath seriously and will continue to seek out those who violate the public trust and where appropriate, seek prosecution and removal from office," McNickle said.

An investigation began on May 20 when a citizen reported a concern to police that Morris was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl, McNickle said in his press release.

"The original information supplied by the citizen had no evidence of criminal activity by Morris.

"Two investigators were immediately assigned to determine if Morris had violated any policies of the Stillwater Police Department Standard Operating Procedures.

"The internal investigation continued until June 1, 2009, when information was discovered that Morris had possibly violated state law in his conduct with the 15-year-old victim.

"Based on this information, I immediately asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) to assist the Stillwater Police Department in conducting a criminal investigation into Morris' conduct," McNickle said.

"On June 2, 2009, the criminal investigation determined probable cause existed that Morris committed a felony. Also on June 2, 2009, Morris was suspended from duty and his powers to act as a police officer were revoked," McNickle said.

"On June 10, 2009, two investigators were dispatched on an out-of-state trip to interview potential witnesses in the criminal investigation. The trip continued through Monday, June 15, 2009," McNickle said.

The following day, charges were filed against Morris by Payne County First Assistant District Attorney Tom Lee.

Morris was booked into the Payne County Jail and released after posting a $25,000 property bond, court records show.

According to an affidavit by OSBI agent Richard Brown, the girl knew Morris for the two years she attended Stillwater Junior High School. She said that she talked with Morris every morning at school, the affidavit said.

"She and Morris exchanged phone numbers and would text each other. She felt Morris knew she liked him and that he liked her.

"She became close to Morris. Morris would text her saying he loved her and would be able to show her how much he loved her," the affidavit alleged.

She told the OSBI agent that Morris fondled her while they were alone in his home and that while he was driving her back to her house, Morris put his finger in her genital area, the affidavit alleged.

In May two days before she was to leave Oklahoma for the summer, Morris came by her house while her father was at work and they performed manual sex acts on each other, the affidavit alleged.

Morris subsequently talked to Stillwater Police Officer Guy Palladino, who was a School Resource Officer assigned to Stillwater's Sangre Ridge Elementary and Middle Schools, as well as Westwood Elementary School. Palladino also was a Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) representative for any officer at the Stillwater Police Department, according to the affidavit.

Morris told Palladino that they had sexual contact, but denied having oral or vaginal sex with the girl, the affidavit alleged.

Morris knew his job was gone and he hoped he did not have to go to prison, but that he had done this to himself," the affidavit alleged.

Bus Driver Richard Dean Stephen Charged with Sexual Assault to a 5-year-old

A Clark County School District bus driver charged with the sexual assault of a 5-year-old girl tentatively agreed today to plead guilty to two lesser charges of attempted lewdness with a minor.

Richard Dean Stephen of North Las Vegas was arrested June 16 and booked on 10 counts relating to lewdness with a minor under the age of 14 and sexual assault.

At Stephen’s preliminary hearing in North Las Vegas Justice Court today, his attorney, William Terry, said he would enter the guilty plea when he is arraigned in District Court. That hearing is scheduled for July 29.

Stephen, 63, faces up to 40 years in prison for the two charges. He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on $80,000 bond.

The North Las Vegas Police Department received a report on May 19 that a girl had been molested numerous times at her home, police said.

Although Stephen drove elementary school children, the alleged 5-year-old victim is not a student, police said. Stephen rented his North Las Vegas house on Van Der Meer Street to the girl's mother. He also lived there.

At today’s hearing, prosecutor Mary Kay Holthus said the police investigation found that Stephen had been warned by the school district for allegedly touching children on two separate occasions. According to the detective’s report, Stephen’s supervisor told police that she was conducting an internal investigation because “several students” alleged that he touched their arms, faces and shoulders on the bus.

Terry said during the hearing that no charges have been filed regarding those reports and there were no allegations that the touching was of a sexual nature. Terry declined to comment to the media.

A spokesman for the school district said he could not confirm the reports because it’s against policy to discuss employee disciplinary matters. In general, employees are advised not to initiate contact with students. Stephen was hired in August 2007 and he is still employed with the school district.

Former Teacher Charles Rogers Arrested on 76 Counts of Sexual Assault

Former Garrett Junior High School teacher Charles Richard Rogers pleaded not guilty today in District Court to 76 counts of sexual assault of a minor, lewdness with a child, use of a child in pornography and possession of child pornography.

In a small basement courtroom in the Regional Justice Center, Rogers, 46, appeared behind a glass wall in a jail jumpsuit and glasses and told District Judge Kevin Williams that he had a copy of the indictment against him and that he pleaded not guilty to all 76 charges.

Rogers, who remains in the Clark County Detention Center on $1.3 million bail, was arrested March 26 after police received a computer storage device containing child pornography that allegedly had come from his home.

The indictment lists incidents from 1999 through 2009 and names seven victims. It also notes that the identities of several children appearing in the pornography are unknown.

The indictment included two counts of sexual assault of a minor, four counts of use of a minor in pornography, 17 counts of lewdness with a child under 14, 50 counts of possession of child pornography, one count of open and gross lewdness, one count of attempted lewdness with a minor under 14 and one count of child abuse and neglect.

Six family members and friends attended the 20-minute hearing, and Rogers exchanged looks with them as his attorney, Bill Terry, spoke to the judge about hearing dates and procedures.

Rogers, who has diabetes and is a kidney transplant patient, did not look healthy, Terry said after the hearing. He added that he was glad to see that the Clark County jail had allowed his glasses to be delivered to him. The glasses had been an issue Terry brought up in earlier hearings before Boulder City Justice of the Peace Victor Lee Miller.

Rogers is set to appear before District Judge Michael Villani at 8 a.m. July 13 to set a trial date. Terry asked for the hearing date to allow time to ensure the grand jury transcripts are completed, he said.

Slone was charged with sexually abusing his now 13- and 16-year old stepdaughters over the last four years. His wife was charged with child abuse for allegedly letting her elder daughter continue to have contact with Slone after he fathered her 13-month-old child.

Officer Louis Buck Morris Charged with Lewd Acts with Minor

A Stillwater Police Officer has been arrested and charged in Payne County District Court with 3 counts of lewd acts to a child under age 16 and two counts of rape. Louis Alvie "Buck" Morris, 48, was charged after an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and an internal investigation by Stillwater Police.

Morris, 48, of Ripley, who served as the School Resource Officer at the Stillwater Junior High School, was charged Tuesday with five sex acts with a 15-year-old female student in May.

Morris was arrested Tuesday in the case investigated by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and released after posting a $25,000 property bond, court records show.

If convicted of two counts of rape by instrumentation and three counts of lewd acts with a child, Morris could receive as much as two life without parole sentences plus 60 years in prison.

"Morris talked with her about getting married and she felt they mutually agreed they would. She felt Morris loved her and she loved him," according to the affidavit.

Stillwater Police Officer Guy Palladino, who was a School Resource Officer assigned to Stillwater's Sangre Ridge Elementary and Middle Schools, as well as Westwood Elementary School, was a Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) representative for any officer at the Stillwater Police Department.

Palladino, who has been with SPD for about 22 years, had worked with Morris, who on May 28 contacted Palladino and told him he was under investigation for "inappropriate text messaging with a 15-year-old female," the affidavit alleged.

"Morris told Palladino the girl was a student at the Stillwater Junior High School and all he did was talk and text message with her," the affidavit alleged.

"On June 2, 2009, Morris came over to Palladino's house and told Palladino he had been suspended with pay and was being investigated for lewd acts with a minor.

"Morris told Palladino he was sorry and he had lied to him the last time they had talked," the affidavit alleged.

"Morris asked the girl to marry him and she accepted," the affidavit alleged.
Morris told Palladino that they had sexual contact, but denied having oral or vaginal sex with the girl, the affidavit alleged.

"The girl wanted to have sex with Morris, but he told her they would have to wait until she was 16," the affidavit alleged.

"Morris told Palladino he had become one of 'them,' and felt like he was 15.
"Morris knew his job was gone and he hoped he did not have to go to prison, but that he had done this to himself," the affidavit alleged.

When the girl's father was interviewed, he said that he "felt he could trust Morris since he was a police officer," and had allowed his daughter to visit at Morris's house on several occasions since he met Morris, the affidavit alleged.

Stillwater Police Detective Sgt. Jeff Watts spoke with the girl in her father's presence on May 21, the affidavit said.

She told the detective that "She and Officer Morris were involved in a relationship," the affidavit alleged. She said that they "had been talking about being together when she turned 18," the affidavit alleged.

She allowed the detective to look at her cell phone where he viewed text messages between the two, the affidavit alleged.

The detective also conducted an interview with the girl in another state on June 11, the affidavit said.

Authorities say an El Monte man is facing federal child pornography charges after admitting on an employment application for the California Highway Patrol that he had viewed child porn on the Internet.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said Friday that a multiagency investigation was launched after Christian Hernandez made the disclosure while applying to the agency in October.

Eimiller says investigators found child pornography on a computer during a search of Hernandez's home, including sexually explicit photos of a 5-year-old girl.
