Sgt. Chad Lakey Arrested for Sexual Battery on Child

An Osceola sheriff's sergeant arrested Friday on a domestic child-sex charge was moved Saturday to the Orange County Jail for his protection.

Chad Lakey, 33, who comes from a family of law officers, was arrested after a South Carolina woman told police he molested her daughter. The incident is said to have happened at Lakey's St. Cloud home in summer 2008. It was reported three weeks ago, St. Cloud Capt. Bret Dunn said.

Bail on the charge of domestic sexual battery of a child older than 12 is $2,500. Lakey, a former St. Cloud police detective, was placed on administrative leave while the Sheriff's Office conducts an internal investigation, department spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said Saturday.

Lakey is married to St. Cloud police Sgt. Dhalyn Lakey, and his father, Jim Lakey, is a retired Kissimmee police sergeant who lost in the Republican primary for Osceola sheriff in 2004.

Sick Couple Charged with Having Sex with 18-Month-old Daughter

A Punta Gorda man has been charged with having sex with the 18-month-old daughter of his girlfriend, who detectives say was also involved in the acts.

Glenn M. Nelson, 59, of the 28000 block of Bermont Road, was arrested Tuesday and charged with capital sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under 12, the Charlotte Sheriff's Office said.

He is being held without bond at Charlotte County Jail.

The Sheriff's Office has not released details about the victim's mother, who lives in Port Charlotte. The investigation continues and more charges are expected, sheriff's spokesman Bob Carpenter said.

Detectives searched the mother's home and found child pornography on her computer. Chat sessions between the couple discussing having sex with the baby on webcam were also found, officials said.

Detectives then searched Nelson's apartment and offices at the Villa Del Sol apartments in Punta Gorda, where he is the property manager. They said the couple engaged in sexual acts with the girl since she was born. Photos were taken and sent to Nelson's home computer and his workplace, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Detectives filed additional charges against Nelson after an investigator located photos in his computer.

The baby was initially turned over to the Department of Children and Families, and is now with a relative.

Antonio Moreno Arrested for Sexual Battery on Child

43-year-old Antonio Arementero Moreno of Tampa, Florida was arrested Wednesday and charged with Sexual Battery on a Child Older Than 12 and Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a Child Older Than 12. He had a bond hearing earlier today and has been ordered held without bail. Moreno is currently lodged in the Hillsborough County Jail.

Moreno has apparently been sharing a bedroom with the boy at Moreno's home although their relationship has not been made public by the Hillsborough County Sheriff.

The sexual battery took place around midnight and the boy told his father about the incident, who called police as soon as it became known to him.

Moreno, who is unemployed, was also arrested back in January by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on a Domestic Battery charge. He was released on his own recognizance the next day. I don't know if it's been to court or not but will try and update this post later in the week when I have time.

Sgt. Daniel Bowden Busted for Child Porn

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper is unemployed after he was busted for looking at child pornography online.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies arrested Sgt. Daniel Bowden, 40, Tuesday afternoon.

Bowden is facing 10 counts of child pornography for pictures the Lake County Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Unit confirmed were on Bowden's computer.

It's an undercover investigation that has taken months to come to light.

“This started back in November of 2008 with a search warrant. Several computers were seized and once the forensics was completed on those computers, there were several images of child pornography that we discovered,” said Cpl. Jim Vachon from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

It was a shocking discovery that led to the arrest of Bowden, an 18-year veteran of the highway patrol, who worked in DeLand, but lives in Lake County.

Deputies said some of the pornographic images Bowden had on his computer appeared to be of children under 4 years old.

“They were described as being obviously children, some pre-pubescent. Just the file names alone were pretty graphic,” Vachon said.

Bowden made statements to the sheriff’s office about his actions.

“Things like ‘I screwed up’ and ‘I was just curious,’ that kind of thing,” Vachon said.

Officers said at one point, Bowden said he did not think what he was doing was a big deal.

It wasn’t the reaction the Florida Highway Patrol had after finding out about his arrest. They said Bowden is being fired and released the following statement:

We regret the incident involving Mr. Bowden, and we certainly do not condone his actions in any way. As State Troopers charged with the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors, we expect all of our officers to hold themselves to the highest ethical and moral standards, including those relating to both their professional and personal lives.

“I mean, of course, it’s difficult for us to investigate a fellow law enforcement officer. But in the end, we've got a job to do and it's just unfortunate that this is the way it went,” Vachon said.

William Zimmerman Arrested for Child Porn

Investigators jailed a 54-year-old man on child pornography charges after he bought illicit videos of child pornography during an undercover mail sting, authorities said in a release.

A detective from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service posed as a commercial DVD retailer and found William J. Zimmerman through a list of people who may have bought similar illegal porn in the past, according to a news release.

The inspector sent Zimmerman a letter — on fictitious company letterhead — and offered child porn via mail order.

Zimmerman, of the 1200 block of 51st Avenue East, was arrested after an undercover agent delivered four DVDs on Friday. After being interrogated, Zimmerman reportedly acknowledged that he intended to buy child porn and had done so other times, according to the release.

He is being held on four felony counts.

Anthony Paul Poteat Charged with Sexual Battery on Mentally Disabled Girl

A judge denied bond Saturday for a 42-year-old man charged with the sexual battery of a 16-year-old mentally disabled girl and locking up her brother in his room at nights.

Anthony Paul Poteat, wearing a red and white Marion County Jail outfit with his hands behind his back in handcuffs, told Circuit Court Judge Jack Singbush that he needed a public defender. Poteat told the judge that, since his arrest, he has been terminated from his job at Dollar General, where he was a clerk.

Before dismissing him, the judge told Poteat not to have any contact with the alleged victim.

"The best thing for me to do is to keep my mouth shut," said Poteat, standing outside the courtroom at the jail, when asked if he wanted to make a comment to the Star-Banner.

On Tuesday, an unconscious Poteat was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center by sheriff's deputies after they found him passed out at the back of Forest Assembly of God Church, 17530 E. State Road 40, in a fenced-in area. A medication bottle was with him but was empty, according to officials.

At his first appearance on Saturday, the judge asked if he would hurt himself while in jail, and Poteat told him, "I can't promise you that."

Poteat had remained in the hospital until Friday afternoon, when he was released and transported to the jail, where he was booked in at 3:06 p.m., according to jail records.

The incident leading to his arrest unfolded at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, when a sheriff's deputy received a call about a possible sexual battery in Silver Springs.

A 14-year-old boy reported that he saw Poteat sexually assaulting his sister. The teen said Poteat has locked him in his room at nights for roughly six months, and bolted the windows for about a year to prevent him from going out at night.

The boy reportedly retrieved a cell phone and taped a portion of the abuse. After taping the encounter, he said he ran to a friend's home and called 911.

Officials were told the alleged victim's mother came home and ordered Poteat to leave. The man took his belongings, including medication, and left.

Susan Blalock Arrested for Child Abuse

A one-year-old boy is found sitting in the middle of a sharp curve on a DeFuniak Springs roadway, and the baby’s caregiver is facing a felony charge. On Thursday morning, a couple was driving along High Lonesome Road when they suddenly stopped due to the child sitting by himself in front of them.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office personnel along with Department of Children and Family Service case workers arrived on the scene. Authorities would knock on the front door of Susan Blalock’s Arielle Lane home. She told authorities’ that she was the baby’s caregiver.

The 38-year-old woman told investigators that she came home earlier that morning. She took the baby out of the crib before feeding and dressing him. Blalock says she then laid the child next to her on the couch and fell asleep. At one point, the baby apparently got up and wandered out of the house while Blalock slept.

Sheriff’s officials say this is not the first time they were called to the residence. Last April, a similar incident took place involving the child. Following Thursday’s case, DCF personnel decided to remove the boy from the home.

Blalock was arrested on a charge of cruelty to a child without great harm and transported to the Walton County Jail. Her bond has been set at five-thousand dollars.

James B. Kersey, 39, was arrested Thursday on 16 counts of possession of child pornography; two counts of transmission of pornography, prohibited; and 11 counts of attempted transmission of pornography, prohibited.

He is held on $10,000 bond for each of the 29 counts.

A search warrant was served at Kersey's Leesburg residence on Thursday.

During the search, Kersey "admitted that he intentionally downloaded numerous movie files of child pornography via his computer to DVDs with the intent to mail them to a person out of state," according to his arrest affidavit.

Kersey told deputies he used the search term "pthc" -- or pre-teen hardcore -- to find movies with images of children.

Investigators were able to download some of the porn. Kersey also admitted knowing that he had child pornography files available for others to download

Investigators found at least six movie files on the computer and at least 11 movie files on the DVDs containing child porn.

"All of the movies show young female children clearly under the age of 18 based on their lack of physical development," the affidavit states.

Robert Livingston, of Palm Beach Gardens, had his first appearance at a hearing in front of a judge on Tuesday morning. He has been charged with 48 counts of possessing child pornography.

In a probable cause report, an investigator working undercover said he found a computer Internet provider address that was sharing multiple child pornography videos.

Teacher Robert Barth Arrested for Child Porn

An Orange County man was an Army veteran, foster parent, second grade teacher and accused child porn junkie. Robert Barth was quietly arrested on Monday, but the allegations against him came to light Thursday in a federal hearing where his lawyer was trying to get him out of jail.

Barth posted bond around 2:00pm Thursday. Neighbors and parents are stunned by his arrest and subsequent release.

Barth, 57, has taught fourth and second graders at Cheney Elementary School since 2004. The community around that school is in shock and frustrated; they had no idea why he suddenly left the school.

Federal investigators arrested Barth early this week on child pornography charges. Court documents reveal the 27-year Army vet started downloading child porn in 2005.

No one answered at his home Thursday and, later, a car pulled in and the garage closed.

Eyewitness News found a handprint of a small child outside the home and the Department of Children and Families says Barth and his wife have had 19 foster children since 2002, but DCF has had no allegations of abuse.

The school district pulled Barth out of the classroom and put him on paid leave in December when it learned he was under investigation by the FBI.

"It's kind of scary," parent Angel Gonzalez told Eyewitness News.

Gonzalez has two children and lives across the street in from Barth in his east Orange County neighborhood. He describes Barth as quiet, but friendly.

News of his arrest has people in the area wondering how a family man and teacher could get involved in such a disturbing crime involving children.

"I don't like it, kind of dangerous, especially working at school," Gonzalez said.

Barth is out on bond and will be on home confinement. Court documents show he has surrendered his passport.

The school district is working with law enforcement to determine if he'll be fired

5-year-old Killed Because Argument Over Breakfast

The father of a 5-year-old boy is in jail in Osceola County. Detectives say he beat his son to death because of an argument over breakfast. The boy wouldn't eat his breakfast at his dad's Poinciana house on Friday and, deputies say, his father beat him to death.

The father's girlfriend is also in jail. Detectives think she may have been the first to hit the little boy with her belt and, when the boy hit back, they say his father went over the edge.

Jennifer Gonzalez Arrested for Child Abuse

A Vero Beach woman hit a 4-year-old child in the face with a belt because the child was being bad, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office said.

Jennifer Gonzalez, 26, was arrested Monday on one count of child abuse.

According to an arrest affidavit, the child told deputies, "I got whooped." When asked why, the child said because he or she was being bad and stomping his or her feet.

Gonzalez is also accused of hitting the child across the shoulder and thighs. Deputies said they noticed bruising on the child in all three locations.

An adult who was home during the incident told deputies he saw Gonzalez grab a belt from the bedroom and heard the child getting spanked, but he did not see it happen. He told deputies Gonzalez asked him to say the child slipped on the kitchen floor and fell on a mop.

According to the affidavit, Gonzalez initially told deputies the child slipped on the kitchen floor and got bruised, but when confronted, she admitted to hitting the child with the belt.

James Laird Seegars Jr Wanted for Sexual Abuse

Niceville Police, along with the U.S. Marshals, are on a manhunt. They're looking for a high school basketball coach accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old.

The coach, 28-year-old James Laird Seegars, Jr., was supposed to surrender Monday morning at 10:00, but never showed up.

However, the school's superintendent, Robert Grete, and former superintendent, Donald Larson, were arrested. Police say the men failed to report child abuse to the proper authorities.

Investigators report the student's father told school officials about an online chat between the coach and his daughter. Larson and Grete apparently told the father they would do an internal investigation before authorities were called.

Derrick McKee Arrested for Child Porn

A 29-year-old Summerfield man was arrested Wednesday on 12 counts of possessing child pornography.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from America Online on July 17 stating Derrick W. McKee sent e-mails in early 2006 that may have contained pornographic images of children, according to a sheriff’s report.

Deputy Michael Dodd went to McKee’s residence at 16345 S.E. 97th Ave. Road on Wednesday to question him. McKee admitted sending the e-mails and consented to a search of his computers, according to the report.

One one computer, Dodd found 30 photographs and 21 videos suspected to be child pornography, the report said.

McKee showed Dodd a second computer, which he said he used to download child pornography before he gave it to his mother and bought a new one.

Dodd took both computers as evidence.

McKee told Dodd he used the file-sharing program Limewire to download the child pornography. He said he has been looking at it for several years and didn’t know how many of the illegal files were on the computers, according to the report.

Dodd arrested McKee and took him to the Marion County Jail, where he remained Thursday.

Convicted Sex Offender Jeffrey Epstein Out of Jail

Convicted sex offender billionaire Jeffrey Epstein is out of jail, and back home in his Palm Beach mansion.

Epstein avoided our cameras Wednesday morning as he was released from the Palm Beach County Jail. He left out a door where most people do not exit when leaving the facility. Then a black car whisked Epstein away.

Last year Epstein took a plea deal for soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. Epstein got a jail sentence of a year and a half, but served just more than a year. And most of the year, he was on work release-- meaning he was able to leave the jail under guard for 16 hours a day.

Wednesday afternoon we spoke with a lawyer representing one of the 15 young women now suing Epstein. Palm Beach Gardens attorney Spencer Kuvin says his client was 15 years old when she was recruited for a sexual encounter with Epstein.

"She's certainly upset that a sexual offender gets out this early," said Kuvin. "And now that he's out, she's afraid for her safety. She's been followed by vans and trucks. They've been digging through her personal life."

"There were never any victims," proclaimed Epstein lawyer Jack Goldberger. "There are women who have filed lawsuits against Mr. Epstein. And we're going to challenge the evidence in those cases and defend them in court."

There's already new picture of Epstein on the sexual offender website. Epstein is now on probation for a year.

Corey Hipscher Arrested for Molesting Young Girl

Detectives say 37-year-old Corey Hipscher, a registered sex offender already on probation for the 2002 false imprisonment and sexual battery of a victim over 12-years-old, is back in jail.

He's accused of molesting a young Boca Raton girl who was spending the afternoon at Quiet Waters park, where he had been working for about four months.

"We know it's not isolated. We know he had a first victim in 2002," said Broward Sheriff's office spokesperson Keyla Concepcion, "this is his second victim that we're aware of and we want to know if there are more out there."

"I'd kill that guy. I swear to God," said park visitor Alberto Virela.

Virela and his 13-year-old son, Lucas, say they rented a boat at the same spot just a few weeks ago and recognized Hipscher's photograph.

"It's just kinda scary to think that guy was doing that," said Lucas.

"And it's very troubling to think that somehow this guy found employment at a park," says Concepcion.

The Broward County Parks Department says Hipscher was hired by a subcontractor who runs the boating area, and according to their vendor contract, is supposed to perform background checks before hiring anyone.

Detectives say Hipscher rented two paddle boats to the little girl's family and offered to take the victim and her female cousin on a ride around the lake on a flotation device pulled by a small motorized boat.

An adult asked to ride in the boat with them, they say, but Hipscher allegedly insisted the adults stay on shore citing a weight restriction.

Police say the victim was the first to ride on the float, and when Hipscher assisted her out of the water, he fondled the little girl several times.

"You have to think that he had the intention of molesting this young girl," said Concepcion, "He probably just didn't want an adult around."

The little girl's cousin, say police, also saw what happened and told relatives. They then confronted Hipscher about it. At first, they say, he denied the allegation. But then, according to the police report, "begged the family to ignore the incident.. told the family that he would quit his job or allow them to beat him if they did not report what had happened."

When Hipscher realized the family was calling the sheriff's office they say he drove off. Detectives later found him at his home in Plantation where he was arrested without incident.

He's now being held without bond.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have had an inappropriate encounter with Hipscher to contact them at (954) 493-TIPS.
