Former Mayor Sentenced for Possession of Child Porn

A former suburban Chicago mayor has been sentenced to 30 days in prison for possession of child pornography.

Seventy-one-year-old Tom Adams was accused of having child pornography on his home computer and distributing it via e-mail.

In February, Adams pleaded guilty to 16 counts of child pornography possession. As part of a plea deal, the charges of dissemination of child pornography were dropped.

A judge on Monday said Adams must also pay a $10,000 fine, undergo psychological treatment and do 200 hours of community service. He must also register as a sex offender.

Adams, the former mayor of Green Oaks, was also the former Lake County GOP chairman.

His attorney says Adams is a good man who had a lapse in judgment.
